Outsourced is typically less expensive below ~75 employees.
How we calibrated the realistic-optimal defaults. The industry-driven
defaults (IT FTE per employee, fully-loaded salary band, tooling per FTE + per
computer, consulting hours per employee per year) are calibrated to publicly available
industry benchmarks — Computer Economics IT Spending Survey, Robert Half Tech Salary
Guide, US Bureau of Labor Statistics, and secondary references to Gartner IT Key
Metrics Data. Numbers reflect US national averages for SMBs. Bay Area / NYC compensation
typically runs 25–40% higher; small-town and Tier-3 cities run 10–15% lower.
How we model the subscription line items. The outsourced side prices
360SmartIT Department at the annual term billed monthly ($21.25 per computer per month,
15% off the $25 list rate), with your volume-tier discount applied on top. We use the
annual-monthly term at every computer count — including below 25, where month-to-month
is also available — so the model stays conservative and consistent (volume discounts
pair only with annual terms). The add-on line is two named catalog products at the same
term: 360CloudBackupPro plus 360CyberProtect MDR.
How we model the consulting line item. Both sides use the same
independent market-benchmark rate of $195 per hour for senior IT consulting —
deliberately a market figure, separate from our own rate card, so the comparison stays
neutral. Our written rate card is provided during your intro call and before any
signature. We bill in 5-minute increments rounded up; clients incurring $100,000 or
more annually are eligible for 1-minute incremental billing.
Why the in-house side often needs more consulting. A single in-house
generalist cannot specialize across cloud, security architecture, compliance, and
modern endpoint management. We assume the outsourced side needs roughly 70% of the
in-house consulting hours because deeper specialist coverage reduces rework. Sub-2-FTE
shops carry a +35% consulting load; 4+ FTE shops carry −25%.
Outside this comparison. Industry-specific software (CAD seats,
EMR licensing, ERP fees, lab instruments), bandwidth and connectivity, hardware
purchase costs, and customer-facing software you build yourself. These are buyer-side
capex/opex regardless of whether IT operations are in-house or outsourced.
